Take a Photo Every Day: Day 30

Last day of the photo challenge. It's been an interesting 30 days. Have I changed much because of it? Upon reflection:
  • I'm much more aware of interesting sights around me. It's amazing what you see when you're looking for something that amazes you.
  • I should carry my camera more often. There have been plenty of sights I wish I'd been able to capture.
  • I've found myself finding these shots in the comfort of my own garden. I wonder what I would have done in the winter?
  • It's possible to take great shots with my seven year old camera.
  • I enjoy these shots much more when I'm able to share them.
So, this is the end of this 30-day challenge. On to something new tomorrow!

Take a Photo Every Day: Day 29

My garden gate at twilight. I never noticed how secretive it looked before...

Take a Photo Every Day: Day 28

I went out into the yard today for a little wander, and was surprised to see this stunning bloom from the globe thistle that was given to me by a co-worker. Isn't it beautiful?

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 26

Does anyone wanna take a stab at what's going on here, because I sure don't know...

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 25

We moved into our house in the dead of winter, when everything was covered in a couple of feet of snow. We were surprised by three things when the spring came:

1) There was a paved path to the garage underneath all that snow.
2) We have some beautiful perennials in the flower beds.
3) We had raspberry plants!

We let them go totally out of control, which they seem to like!

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 24

We planted our apple trees the first spring we lived in our house. We were naive: we thought we'd have apples in no time. It's really only from last year we have any apples to speak of. If anything, they are beautiful as they grow... a blushing sphere on the branch.

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 23

It's hard to believe that a flower this beautiful comes from something as lowly as a cooking onion.

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 22

I love our Mayday tree. I love that it has many stages throughout the growing season. It starts out with green leaves in the spring. Then, it blooms white, fragrant sprays of little flowers. After that, the leaves slowly start to turn purple, and the flowers that were pollinated turn into green emerald-like berries, and then ripen into deep, purple jewels. It's like having multiple trees in one!

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 21

I bought this fabric at a quilt shop on a whim. The bolt was sitting in the bargain bin and there were only a few metres left on the bolt, so I took the lot. Now, two years later, I have unearthed it from my basket. I still don't know what I want to make with it. The flowers are the size of a penny, and I think I have about 3.5 metres (just under 4 yards). Any suggestions?

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 18, 19 and 20

I was away over the last three days in a place with no internet access, and barely any cell phone access, hence my relative silence. Here are some pics of the views I took in.

A squirrel that drove my dog crazy with its brazen courage.

A walk near the creek.

Two of the buildings on the property.

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 17

This is the most uncooperative ladybug I've ever met. Every time I pointed the camera towards it, it turned around. Who knew they were such prima donas?

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 16

This is a stone egg I bought while visiting Wales. I have no idea what kind of stone it is, but the pattern in it makes me think of an evil wizard, trapped inside by a spell!

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 14

I purchased this on a trip to Venice, Italy. I searched high and low for one that I liked and that I could afford. The irony? It doesn't fit my face at all!

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 13

I saw this spider crawling across the corner of our front window out of the corner of my eye. I waited a whole hour for this thing to turn up again so I could get a shot of it!

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 12

I like to spin with my spindle while walking around, and I often move to a space near the kitchen in the evenings to do so. People don't often think of spinning as an active hobby, but I figure I must walk a good chunk of my daily steps while doing this. Here's an action shot of my spindle in motion!

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 10

I decided this year that I would grow my purple beans in between each corn seedling, thinking that the corn would grow nice and tall, and the beans could lean on them, while fixing the nitrogen into the soil. Well... the corn didn't grow as quickly as I thought, and the beans are rather... vigorous. I'm hoping they don't choke the corn, but I suppose the plants will have to fight it out themselves. That's what I get for pitting legumes against large stalks!

Take a Photograph Every Day: Day 9

I was down and out for most of the evening with a headache, and I almost forgot to do this today.

This is a prayer plant (Maranta leuconeura erythroneura) and I bought it from a Home Depot about five years ago as a tiny wee plant. Now, its leaves hang four feet from a basket in a long vine-like stem. I only just realized that they curl their leaves up and night and open them during the day. They're so pretty, but quite sensitive; they burn in direct sunlight. It's a curious thing for a plant to reject sunlight, isn't it?
